Micaul Solar Underfloor Heating Systems

Warm Water Underfloor heating designed, supplied and fitted by Micaul Solar provides a kind of

warmth that is more natural and more comfortable than that of radiators.

It makes no intrusion on room space and saves on fuel and maintenance costs and is particularly

suited for use with all renewable and sustainable energy systems such as solar thermal, wood

and wood pellet stoves and air and ground source heat pump systems.

Radiator systems generate heat by drawing cold air across our feet and convecting it towards the ceiling.

In contrast, underfloor heating warms the lower part of the room where the occupants stand and sit,

matching closely the ideal heat comfort profile, with the feet just slightly warmer than the head giving a

feeling of natural warmth with no stuffiness.

You can experience underfloor heating in every room, upstairs and down.

Underfloor heating is now widely accepted as the preferred method of transferring the warmth generated

by a heat pump. Given the water temperatures generated by heat pumps, radiators would need to be

larger than normal and intrusive to dissipate sufficient heat from a heat pump system which would normally

supply water in the range 35 – 50˚C.

Although underfloor heating can be connected to all conventional boiler types, the lower water temperatures

required make it the perfect partner for 'green' energy sources such as ground source, air source and

exhaust air heat pumps.

The very real practical benefits of underfloor heating are well documented: more space, increased comfort,

enhanced system control and lower running costs. UFH produces radiant, rather than convection heat,

meaning warmth is concentrated in the lower part of the room where it is most effective, allowing room stats

to be turned down; its lower flow/return water temperatures mean less cycling of condensing boilers or more

efficient operation of any heat pump.

With the accepted life of a radiator recognised to be about 30 years and that of underfloor heating tube at

least 50 years with no ongoing redecoration costs, the lifetime costs of the heating system can be significantly

reduced.

Other Benefits of Underfloor Heating

  • Can be used with any floor type or covering

  • Absence of obtrusive radiators releases wall and floor space, giving freedom of design and furniture placement

  • Reduced running costs, providing warmth where the occupants are rather than heating the ceiling.

  • Reduced amount of circulation so that the air that you breathe is cleaner and less allergenic. Cleaner air can be of major benefit to people with respiratory problems. There are no radiators to collect dust and spiders' webs or to be cleaned, redecorated or renewed.

  • Risk of injury particularly to children and the elderly through the high temperatures or sharp corners of radiators is removed.
